Choosing the Right Blinds for Your Room

Recess vs face fix, blackout vs daylight, and how to measure for first-time success.

Wrong blinds are usually wrong because of the measurements, not the fabric. Here's how to choose with your fitter — not after them.

Recess fit

Looks neatest. Best on a square reveal. Measure the narrowest point of the recess (top, middle, bottom — whichever is smallest) for both width and height.

Face fit

More forgiving on older windows where the reveal isn't square, and gives better light blocking around the edges. Brackets sit on the wall above and either side of the window.

Blackout vs daylight

  • Bedrooms: blackout fabric, face fit if absolute light blocking matters.
  • Living rooms: daylight or dim-out, often with curtains layered over.
  • Kitchens: easy-clean PVC venetians or moisture-tolerant rollers.
  • Bathrooms: PVC venetians or waterproof rollers — never natural fabric.
